Giving
The St. John's Experience is Only Possible Because of Its Supportive Community.
The reputation that St. John's Episcopal School has among peer schools and within the broader community is one of excellence. The oldest Episcopal school in Dallas, St. John's is committed to providing the highest quality education possible for our students. And our success is due to the efforts of our extraordinary teachers and your profound support of our mission. We are grateful for the commitment you make through volunteerism and financial contributions. Your financial support is critical to our success – both today and for our future growth.
THE ST. JOHN’S FUND is the School’s largest annual fundraiser that allows our School to fulfill its mission of creating programs of academic excellence designed to train the mind, strengthen the character, and enrich the spirit of each student in a Christian environment. This Fund helps to bridge the gap between tuition and the actual cost of providing the remarkable St. John’s experience which captures every student’s imagination and fosters an environment so that they will become well-rounded confident learners.
Annual participation is important and represents the strength of our community and our School. Our goal is to reach 100% participation from our great community.

Frequently Asked Questions
WHY IS ST. JOHN’S FUND SO IMPORTANT?
Your generous contribution goes straight into making an impact to our School. It enhances the educational, spiritual, and experience of our students. Tuition alone doesn’t cover all the costs to create the St. John’s experience we know and love. This Fund helps bridge the gap between tuition and the foundational St. John’s experience.
WAIT! DOESN'T TUITION COVER THE COST OF SENDING MY CHILD TO ST. JOHN'S?
Our goal is to keep tuition low for our community but tuition and fees alone only cover roughly 83% of our overall operating costs, which leaves the School the task to bridge the gap between tuition income and operating expenses. On average there is a shortfall per student of $3,700. Dollars raised by annual giving are crucial to the operating budget which includes teachers’ salaries, educational materials, the financial aid program, and facilities maintenance.
WHERE DO THE ST. JOHN'S FUND DOLLARS GO?
By contributing to the St. John's Fund, you are making an immediate impact on every facet of our School. Your investment has allowed us to implement the following critical initiatives:
-
Make facility enhancements and hire additional faculty and staff to adhere to health and wellness protocols implemented during the pandemic
-
Enhance our campus security on site to help ensure the safety of our students, faculty, and staff
-
Leverage technology to enhance the classroom experience
-
Support innovative curriculum development
-
Fuel student leadership and service-learning opportunities
-
Enrich our athletics and arts programs
-
Augment faculty development
-
Beautify our pastoral campus
WHY SHOULD I GIVE MORE THIS YEAR THAN LAST YEAR?
The Board of Trustees and Head of School are committed to minimizing tuition increases while continuing to offer every student an excellent education. The majority of any school budget is applied to people and facility maintenance, leaving little flexibility due to those fixed costs. The cost of providing an excellent education continues to increase significantly, putting pressure on the budget. We ask those who can stretch to please do so, given that not everyone can due to their current circumstances.
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE IN GIVING TO THE ST. JOHN’S FUND AND OTHER FUNDRAISING EFFORTS HOSTED BY THE PARENTS ASSOCIATION (PA) AND THE BOOSTER CLUB?
We so appreciate all the time and generosity that you give to St. John’s. The St. John’s Fund is a budgeted fundraising priority of the School because it offers significant, unrestricted operating support annually. Other fundraising efforts hosted by the PA and Booster Club raise much appreciated restricted funds for special projects that help build our community and campus. Donations to the PA and Booster Club count towards your total contribution to the School but do not count towards your participation in the St. John’s Fund.
HOW DO I DESIGNATE MY GIFT?
When you make your gift/pledge, you can designate to Where the School Needs it Most or to one of the following areas:
- Academic Programs
- Athletics
- Performing and Visual Arts
- Professional Development
- Science
- Financial Aid
- Technology
IF I MAKE A PLEDGE NOW, WHEN IS IT DUE?
We ask that pledges be fulfilled by May 31, 2023. It is helpful to St. John’s if you make your commitment early in the fiscal year, even if you don’t pay until later. It is important for the Board of Trustees to know the approximate total of the projected funds raised before they meet at the end of the year to begin the budget planning process for the next school year.
"We are strong believers in St. John’s approach to developing the “whole child,” and we believe our three children will benefit greatly from the balanced academic, social and spiritual foundation provided by the St. John’s faculty and community. We support the St. John’s Fund each year, as it fills a critical gap between tuition and the actual cost of a St. John’s education. Our contribution through the Fund is further leveraged, as it is 100% tax deductible, and family participation plays an important role in St. John’s competitiveness in securing foundation grants."
