MIDDLE SCHOOL ATHLETICS
We invite all Middle School students to participate on St. John's athletic teams. This fall, we will field teams in volleyball (girls), soccer (co-ed), cross country (co-ed) and flag football (fifth and sixth grade boys; depending on interest).
Volleyball tryouts begin Thursday, August 22, through Friday, August 23. They begin immediately after school and end at 5:30 p.m. Please note that all girls who participate in tryouts will make a team. Tryouts help coaches determine which team is best for each player.
RESOURCE REQUIREMENTS FOR RISING SIXTH, SEVENTH, & EIGHTH GRADERS
For the 2019-20 school year, eighth grade families must each purchase one science textbook and have it by the first day of school. Seventh grade families have the option of purchasing a hardcopy version of the math e-text we provide seventh graders. All other resources are provided by the school. You will receive information from our technology team about downloading the digital resources designated as school-provided in August.
- OPTIONAL textbook for seventh grade math (this is a hardcopy version of the e-text the school provides seventh graders; if purchased elsewhere, ISBN-13 is 9781256736783)
- REQUIRED textbook for eighth grade science (if purchased elsewhere, ISBN-13 is 9780076772872)
TUTORING ROOM REQUESTS
Learning Specialist Mrs. Amy Fulmer will collect tutoring room requests using a request form. Please complete and submit the form. Parents who are scheduling rooms for siblings may complete and submit the form more than once. Tutoring rooms are available to students for whom we have received documentation of diagnosed learning differences. We review the room requests in the order in which they are received and try to accommodate all requests.
All students must have all state-required immunizations on file with the school by the first day of school, August 21. Parents of students who do not have up-to-date immunizations on file should have received a non-compliance email in July. Parents had the opportunity to update medical records earlier this year during online re-enrollment (returning students) or enrollment (new students). If your child has received new immunizations or a new medical diagnosis since then or your child is new to the school and you have not submitted an immunization record yet, please submit the records to clinic nurse Amy Johns by email (firstname.lastname@example.org) or have your doctor's office fax a record to 214-320-0205.
Students with diabetes, severe asthma, or a severe allergy requiring an epi-pen must have an action plan on file in the clinic. If you do not have an action plan from your child's doctor, contact Nurse Johns by email for the required forms.
AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM (ASP)
The After School Program begins on the first day of school and offers a fun and engaging environment for students from the end of the school day until 6:00 p.m. Several optional after-school classes are also available to all St. John's students. Find program details, FAQs, optional class descriptions, and the contract on the After School Program page of our website. Please contact ASP director Lani Jones with questions (214-328-9131 x108).
Middle School Homework Club is free and open to fifth through eighth graders. It meets for 45 minutes immediately after school most school days, with dismissal at 4:30 p.m. M, T, Th, F and 4:00 p.m. Wednesdays. Homework Club will begin Monday, August 26. If you are more than 15 minutes late picking up your child from Homework Club, he or she will be checked into the After School Program, and you will be charged the ASP drop-in fee.
