Camp: Pickleball

Description: Kidokinetics introduces Pickleball for littles which adds a new dimension to our camp experience for children. Pickleball is a hybrid of tennis, badminton and table tennis! This program provides a fast moving, energetic, teamwork-oriented environment that is approachable and engaging. It also is a perfect activity for skill development for PreK/K including agility, coordination, crossing the mid-line, balance, accuracy and speed. The game utilizes wood paddles and a perforated polymer ball (whiffle type) on a court surface modified for small court play.

Description: Every kiddo loves a fun party! Our STEAM Party Camp will introduce several different aspects of Tech and STEAM. Kids will learn basic block coding, digital design/ animation, content creation and much more. Techies will also have fun working with robots as they learn design thinking/ engineering skills using Snap Circuits, pennies, popsicle sticks and LEGOs.

Description: St. John’s offers a great learn-to-ride camp for kids from K-3rd grade! Beginning Biking is directed by Coach Stewart Ball, founder of Dallas Bicycling School. Your child will learn to ride skillfully and safely in the confines of St. John’s campus. Our instructors are experienced in making sure children overcome their fears and experience the thrill of riding a bike on their own. 

*Campers will need their own bikes and helmets for this camp. Bikes will be stored on the SJES Campus for the week for easy transport.


Camp: Beginning Steps to Reading: Phonological Awareness

Description: Young children learn to read and spell with greater ease when phonological awareness is developed through direct instruction. Description: Developed for ages 5-7 years old, the Dallas Magic Academy presents Magic Explorers. The focus is on magic, fun and learning.  We create our own magic with crafts, practice, demonstration and fun. All props and materials are provided and by the end of class, each student will have the knowledge and ability to perform their tricks for their friends and family. There are three different Magic Explorers courses offered. It is not necessary to take one before the other. They each have different props and teach different principles of magic and communication skills.

Reading Fluency will focus on building readers who enjoy and understand what they read. Students will practice basic word-attack skills, reading with fluency, and comprehension exercises that promote smooth, accurate reading. Camp: Slime for Sale

Description: Part science, part art! Join St. John’s PE teacher, Ms. Hernandez, in this STEAM camp where we will design and create a different slime each day and learn the properties that make slime so much fun! Your mission, if you choose to accept it, is to make as much slime as possible so that on Friday you will be able to sell their slime to fellow campers in other camps. All money collected will go to the charity selected at the beginning of the week.


Camp: The ABCs of Chess

Description: Master the game of kings! Join St. John’s 4th grade teacher, Mr. Telzrow, and learn about chess notation, openings, and great tactics like skewers, pins, x-ray attacks and more! You will also learn the rules of tournament chess, including various timed chess games. It's your move!


Camp: Minecraft Modders

Description: Customize your own Minecraft world and mod the classic game in this one-of-a-kind class. Learn scripting and logic statements as you create your first mods. Students will create a wide variety of new elements, gameplay mechanics, and world generating mods to change the way you play Minecraft. Projects will be available on a password protected Black Rocket website to share with friends and family. Students must have the Java version of Minecraft to take this class. Tablet, phone, and game console versions of Minecraft are not compatible. Returning students can create more advanced projects that build on previous years. 


Camp: Intermediate Biking Camp

Description: Explore the trails around White Rock Lake on your bike! More than just a bike ride, this camp is a multi-day bike adventure. In addition to developing excellent biking skills and fitness, we learn about our natural surroundings, the places of interest and history around the lake. If your child already knows how to ride, this is the class to take. We emphasize how to safely handle a bike on the velo trails around Dallas, ride in small groups and build fitness with biking. Bike, helmets and water bottle required. Bikes can be kept on campus. 


Camp: Powerful Writing

Description: The mystery is taken out of writing as students learn techniques and formulas to create paragraphs, essays, and reports. While focusing on creative writing, guidance is given to assure writing with correct grammar, appropriate structure, as well as clear and concise expression. Confidence will improve as students implement “a plan of action” for a variety of writing assignments, while a robust vocabulary can improve literacy skills! In this camp, students discover word origins, derivation, and relationships to expand written and spoken vocabulary. Presented by Academic Enhancement Workshops

Description: Come join our fun and knowledgeable Play-Well Instructors as we use LEGO® materials to recreate our favorite animated friends and their worlds! After building our most beloved princesses, villains, and sidekicks, get ready to rescue princes and princesses from towers, explore enchanted castles, and maybe even fly on a magic carpet or two. All we need is your creativity and a little magic to bring it all to life!

Description: Bringing back the days before kids’ sports were a full-time job, when you got up a backyard game with your friends just for the fun of it - this is a camp kids love! With an ever-changing line up of sports and games, we’ll stay cool in the gym and out of the summer heat, but still burn off our energy! Kickball, flag football, bean bag toss, tag, capture the flag, field hockey, soccer, ga-ga-ga, volleyball, nine square and more. Every day will be new and exciting, with a focus on keeping it friendly and fair. This is a great camp for all ages, sizes, and abilities. 


Camp: Hot Peppers Jump Rope Camp

Description: Calling all kiddos who love to jump rope! Join St. John’s 2nd grade teacher, Mrs. Fuqua, and St. John’s Spanish teacher, Mrs. Martinez, for a week of learning awesome single rope tricks, Double Dutch and 2-in-1 tricks! We will also learn routines to music, make our own jump ropes, and prepare for a performance showcase on Friday! All levels of jumpers are welcome. Members of the Red-Hot Peppers are encouraged to attend, if possible.

Description: Learn how to read people's minds, make money appear out of nowhere and travel through time with a magic bandanna just to name a few. Have fun learning magic skills while also learning life skills. The Discover Magic course is a unique and exciting program specifically designed to teach not just magic, but how to interact successfully with other people. In fact, it’s best described as a life skills course camouflaged to look like a magic lesson. Kids become so engrossed and entertained in learning and performing the magic tricks they don’t realize they’re also developing incredibly valuable communication skills. Every Discover Magic course features custom created props, one of the Traits of a True Magician, Top Secret Private files for every child and even special Bonus material the kids can unlock with a secret code after class. Each course stands on its own. You do not have to take one course before taking another one. They each have different props and routines and each teach different principals and techniques of the ART of Magic.

Description: Take the next step beyond simply “playing” Minecraft and become a true Redstone engineer. Expand your Redstone knowledge by constructing your own carnival with a variety of mini-games, roller coasters, and attractions powered by Redstone. Learn how to use Command and Structure blocks to incorporate them into your builds. Activate your skills and take your Minecraft structures to the next level! Students must have the Java version of Minecraft to take this class. Tablet, phone, and game console versions of Minecraft are not compatible.

Description: Join St. John's technology integration specialist, Mr. Del Regno, in a week of hands on electronic and building projects. Take your love and knowledge of science to the next level in this middle school robotics camp which combines fun with the opportunity for campers to work in teams to build and program robots while learning AI, visual coding, and machine learning.

Description: Blast off for a week of fun with St. John's Preschool Director, Ms. Breeding! We'll mix space fun with motor skills development as we float through our week at camp. As we explore space, you'll build and strengthen fine motor skills. We'll shoot for the stars as we work on grasp development, eye-hand coordination, building, color and scissor skills. In the afternoon, we'll strap on our moon boots and bounce like astronauts while we develop our gross motor skills!

Description: Bon Appetit! Join St. John’s PK teachers, Mrs. Benton and Mrs. Sassenus, for a week of cooking with your favorite children's literature to create fun and delicious treats! From If You Give a Pig a Pancake to Where the Wild Things Are, students will enjoy sharing books together, cooking, and creating projects each day. Children will work cooperatively with others as they prepare recipes that will become a part of their very own cookbook that will certainly bring compliments to the chef!

Join St. John’s Technology Integration Specialist, Mrs. Crouse, and St. John’s 2nd grade teacher, Mrs. Day, for a week of fun in your pjs with all your friends at Slumber Party Camp! Have a blast while you sing and dance to your favorite tunes, paint your nails and do your hair, make fun crafts, and play games while you show off your favorite stuffed animals! When you get tired, snuggle up with your furry friend and watch a fun movie with popcorn and treats! This camp is guaranteed to be all fun and NO slumber!


Camp: Let’s Go Have Some Fun 4.0

Description: Hop aboard the bus to head out for a grand adventure with St. John’s 3rd grade teacher, Mrs. Isbell and Coach Walker! Lunch and snacks will be provided. Wear comfortable clothing and walking shoes. Each day will be a new adventure from sports, culture, amusement parks, Top Golf, laser tag, games, and more! Daily schedules will be sent to campers before the camp week begins. Lunch is provided daily and is included in the cost of the camp.


Camp: Middle School Musical

Description: Join St. John’s Middle School music and theater teachers, Mrs. Hayes and Mrs. Lauerman, as they get ready to cast, rehearse, design, and perform in just one week! Learn about blocking, auditions, movement, and vocal techniques while having a ton of fun! Campers will receive scripts to keep and memorize. On the last day, we will have a performance! The play will be chosen based on the number of participants in the camp.
