Learn about Our History

Grace Cook Fellowship Program

Grace Cook, the first Head of School to lead St. John’s through accreditation, was a visionary leader, devoted educator, and compassionate friend. In the 1980s, she set a strategic direction that fueled the School’s transformative growth, increased enrollment, and supported its first capital campaign, shaping its foundation today. To honor her legacy, St. John’s launched the Grace Cook Fellowship Program in 2021-22, providing two-year teaching or non-profit work experiences at the School. The program helps recruit and train mission-minded educators while bringing fresh perspectives and innovative ideas to the community. Fellows gain valuable experience in teaching, admissions, operations, and more, while contributing to the School’s vibrant and collaborative environment.

Former Grace Cook Fellows/Current St. John's Faculty: Karen Hernandez, Max Patterson '12, Payton Lauerman '11, Olivia Jones '09

Lionhearted Values

At St. John's our Lionhearted Values are the core principles that guide and inspire our School community, shaping how we learn, grow, and interact with one another.

Each value is thoughtfully explored during a dedicated month of the School year, yet all values remain central to our community throughout the year. At St. John’s, faculty, staff, and students actively teach, model, encourage, and reflect on these values as they naturally arise in our curriculum and daily interactions.

Learn more about the St. John's Lionhearted Values

At St. John's, it has been incredibly rewarding to teach students who are genuinely excited to learn. Each day is filled with students experiencing their A-ha! moments, and I know I have made a difference when our alumni return to campus and share their stories with me. Mr. Herod, Math Teacher
