Pre-k

Language Arts

Pre-k immerses students in a language rich environment through games, songs, stories, and verbal sharing experiences to attain greater linguistic proficiency. While building oral and written language skills children participate in letter-of-the-week activities, journaling, and learning centers. Author studies introduce the different styles of books and how authors and illustrators create books. Pre-k children gain fine motor development through daily activities to strengthen their muscles while building skills for writing.

Math

Pre-K students are exposed to beginning math concepts through sorting, graphing, patterning, measuring, estimating and counting to develop the foundations of number sense. Manipulative materials used in learning centers and daily routines engage the children in mathematical thought processes and development.

Science

Pre-K students learn to think like scientists through exploring their environment, working in learning centers, and participating in teacher-directed activities. These include sand, water, sensory activities, experiments, and data collecting. Some units are the five senses, bones and fossils, insects, and ocean life.

Social Studies

The Pre-K social studies program consists of thematic units. It begins with students and their families and expands to the larger community. Students experience literature, art, cooking, dramatic play, field trips and family projects to further understand the world in which they live.
