Summer Information

Please use this page as your go-to resource for back-to-school information. As details are finalized, you will find information about back-to-school activities, open house dates, uniform updates, etc. Also, look for the summer newsletter, including class lists, in late July.

The 2017-18 school year begins Wednesday, August 23. See the key dates for next school year.

Summer Basketball Clinic

Back by popular demand, the Crusader Club is offering a basketball skills clinic August 7-10, coached by Greg Lewis of Blade Basketball, for second through eighth grade boys and girls. Get the details and register.

Contact Changes

New email or phone number? Moved? Name change? Update your contact info via a web form in ParentsWeb (School / Web Forms / Family Demographic Form). Note that you must submit the form from a Mac/PC or iPad, not from a phone. Please contact Andrea Tierney with questions.

Summer Reading Lists

Students entering the first and second grades have suggested summer reading. Rising third through eighth graders have required summer reading, which must be completed by the first day of school. Those students must also bring their signed reading logs to school on the first day. Get reading log. Please see the reading lists by grade level below.

Parent Volunteer Registration

Parents should have received login information and link to register via email May 16 from Sarah Donahue (sdonahue@stjohnsschool.org). We encourage you to complete the brief sign-up as soon as possible, as the PA will use the information over the summer to create volunteer assignments. If you did not receive registration instructions, please contact Sarah.

Middle School Textbooks

Stay tuned for information regarding purchasing Middle School textbooks.

Middle School Schedule

Parents will receive an email from Head of Middle School Pam Jordan regarding schedules, after which we will post details here.

Immunizations

If your child receives immunizations over the summer, please send an updated shot record to school nurse Amy Johns. She will be sending email notifications over the summer to parents whose children have incomplete immunizations (according to her records). In addition, be aware that all students entering the seventh grade will need their meningococcal immunization (MCV), second Varicella (chicken pox) and the diphtheria/tetanus booster (Tdap) before school starts. Make sure your rising seventh graders have received all of these shots before they return to school in August.

Uniforms

You may find dress code and uniform information beginning on page 35 of the St. Johnís handbook handbook.

Parker Uniforms in Casa Linda stocks new St. John's uniform pieces (except the P.E. uniform, sweatshirts and Middle School hoodie, which are available through Crusader Shop - see below). Parker is the only supplier of logo patches for uniform sweaters/blazers. Please note the date of Uniform Resale, where you can purchase gently used uniforms: Saturday, August 19, 9:00 a.m. to noon.

Other Dress Code Notes
  • P.E. shirts and shorts are available through the PA's Crusader Shop. Fourth grade girls wear the P.E. shorts as their modesty shorts so they can quickly remove skirts for P.E.; Middle School boys and girls wear the P.E. shirts and shorts.
  • Regarding Middle School socks: Students may wear white, black or navy socks of any length. Nike Elite or other performance socks are acceptable in white, black or navy only (i.e., no neon or neon-accented Nike Elites).

Lunch Accounts

Please create a lunch account with our caterer, Guess Who's Coming to Dinner (GWCTD), for your child. Follow these instructions to set up an account (leave "Student ID" blank). Please contact GWCTD with questions or view the DineRite Guide. Manage your child's DineRite account.

Menus will be available in the School / Resources section of ParentsWeb, via the weekly newsletter and through Quick Links on the St. John's home page.

Carpool

Two carpool tags are distributed to each Lower School family. (Middle School doesn't use carpool tags.) You may request additional carpool tags from our receptionist, Darlene Williams.

Refer to the chart below for carpool pick-up and drop-off times. Harter Road is one-way during carpool hours. From 7:30 to 8:00 a.m. and 2:45 to 4:00 p.m., enter the campus by turning right into the drive from Harter Road and exit by turning right onto Harter Road. As a courtesy to our neighbors, please do not use the residential streets as a cut-through to or from Buckner Boulevard. Read the carpool guidelines.

School dismisses 30 minutes early every Wednesday (pre-k: 2:00 p.m.; kindergarten through second: 2:30 p.m.; third and fourth: 3:00 p.m.; Middle School: 3:15 p.m.) See the right side of the carpool chart above for campus entry and pick-up times. Middle School Homework Club runs from 3:45 until 4:30 p.m. Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, and 3:15 until 4:00 p.m. on Wednesdays.

Directories

We will provide one printed version of the 2016-17 school directory to each family September 16. An online version of the directory (which is always the most accurate version!) is available in ParentsWeb (School / Resources).

Birthday Blessings

We celebrate each kindergarten through eighth grade student's birthday (or half-birthday for those with summer birthdays) in chapel with a special birthday blessing. Parents are always welcome to attend chapel, and we encourage you to attend for your child's birthday blessing. We publish the birthday blessing schedule each month and post it on ParentsWeb (School / Resources).
