Solar Cooker Project
Using found objects, fifth grade students create solar cookers and test the temperature of the cookers over time as part of their study of energy. This inquiry lesson builds upon student knowledge of renewable and non-renewable energy and solar power. Students connect with a solar cooking expert, Rowena Gerber at Miami Country Day, via videoconference before building their own cookers. Students also develop an appreciation for the value of solar cooking to people in developing countries.
