Episcopal Identity

Our History

We are dedicated to a program of academic excellence designed to train the mind, strengthen the character and enrich the spirit of each student in a Christian environment.

In 1953, St. John's Episcopal Church incorporated St. John's Episcopal School as its primary outreach. That action so many years ago created a small school to aid parish families and the East Dallas community by offering an excellent education in a Christian environment.

Today, St. John's is the oldest Episcopal school in Dallas and serves 500 pre-k through eighth grade children from our surrounding community. And the school remains one of the church's primary outreaches: the rector and chaplain conduct daily chapel services; parishioners serve on the school Board; and the church and school work together on activities and events.

Five Tenets of Episcopal Education

These principles are reflected in our mission statement, guide our decisions and actions, and shape the environment we create for our students. The principles also influence our Board of Trustees in its governance role.

  • Academic excellence
  • Corporate worship (Episcopal/Christian chapel)
  • Religious studies based on basic biblical content
  • Meaningful and integrated community service and service learning projects
  • An inclusive community where the dignity of every human being is respected

Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging

What We Believe

In order for children to thrive in a world where change is constant, it is essential they experience a world outside of what they know and are guided to understand and appreciate differing perspectives.

At St. John's we believe a great education is more than preparing for high school. Our balanced approach provides children with a foundation of independent thought and critical and creative thinking. Just as important, we practice compassion, integrity, leadership, and faith in action. Diversity and inclusion are at the core of what we value and honor. We celebrate diversity which includes ethnicity, race, religion, gender, sexual orientation and socioeconomic status. We support a collaborative environment with open participation from individuals with different ideas and perspectives.

Non-Discrimination Policy

In our commitment to diversity and equity, St. John’s Episcopal School does not discriminate regarding race, color, ethnicity, national origin, sexual orientation, gender, age, genetic information, disability, pregnancy, marital status, religion, military status, and/or any protected category. This commitment extends to our employment, educational, admission, and financial aid policies, and other school-administered programs.
