Emergency Procedures
For the safety of St. John's Episcopal School students, the school has in place the following emergency procedures:
- Communications: In the event of weather-related or other emergency events, parents will be notified by telephone and email within seconds of the event via an emergency notification service. Notification will be sent to every parent contact telephone number—home, office and cell—and all email addresses on file with the school. The implementation of this system makes updates of new parent contact information crucial for communications between the school and parents. Based on the emergency situation, students will be kept on campus or at an off-site evacuation center (see location address below) until parents can safely pick up their students.
- All faculty and staff members are trained in CPR/AED and First Aid, with two defibrillators located on campus.
- Administrators and grade-level teachers have Nextel walkie-talkies to facilitate communication at all times.
- Procedures are in place in the event of fire, tornado or lockdown situations. All areas of the school have posted evacuation maps. Eacher teacher and staff member is given an emergency booklet outlining all emergency procedures.
- Monthly, timed fire drills, as well as evacuation and tornado drills, are mandatory.
- First aid kits are located at specified areas throughout the school.
- Emergency rations are kept on campus.
